young virtuoso award
The National Fine Music Network Young Virtuoso of the Year Award is an initiative of the five fine music stations that make up the network – ArtSound FM Canberra, Fine Music FM 102.5 Sydney, 3MBS Fine Music Melbourne, 4MBS Classic FM Brisbane and 5MBS Adelaide.
Each year the Young Virtuoso Award rewards the talent of a classical instrumentalist under the age of 25 or a classical singer under the age of 30 with a $10,000 prize.
Each station has a rigorous selection process to pick the State finalist who will represent their station. The five finalists then compete by performing at the National Final.
Entries for the 2018 Award are open.
This year the Qld Youth Virtuoso Award competitors will be selected from the Brisbane Eisteddfod competitions and tertiary institutions. If you play a string, brass, woodwind instrument or the piano, please enter the Brisbane Eisteddfod. Entry to the Eisteddfod closes on 1 June (late entries accepted until 15 June).
Classical musicians who are ineligible to enter the Eisteddfod may submit an audition video of 10-15 minutes to 4MBS at 384 Old Cleveland Rd, Coorparoo QLD 4151 or upload their audition video to YouTube and send the private link and competitor contact details to email@example.com with 'Young Virtuoso Award audition' in the subject by 15 June.
The UQ School of Music and the Queensland Conservatorium of Music - Griffith University will also each nominate one outstanding student or recent graduate.
The Queensland Young Virtuoso Final will be held at the 4MBS Performance Studio on Monday 17 September, 6pm. The competitors will perform live in front of a panel of adjudicators who will select the Qld Young Virtuoso winner who will represent Qld/4MBS in the National competition. The adjudicating panel will comprise 3 of Queensland’s leading musicians. The competitors are asked to prepare at least two contrasting pieces with a total maximum playing time of 15 minutes.
In 2018, the National Final will also be held at the 4MBS Performance Studio (384 Old Cleveland Rd, Coorparoo) in Brisbane on Sunday 25 November, 2pm. Finalists will be asked to prepare at least two contrasting pieces with a total maximum playing time of 15 minutes.
