The 2023 4MBS Musicians in Residence are: Brisbane Chorale!

Brisbane Chorale has been a regular performer in the 4MBS Festival of Classics. It is a symphonic choir of over 100 voices based in Queensland, Australia, with a reputation for excellence in choral performance. Since its beginnings in 1983 as a new force in choral music, emerging from the amalgamation and expansion of existing choirs at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music, Brisbane Chorale has made its mark in the cultural landscape of Brisbane, Queensland and Australia. Its journey has been a story of many explorations of repertoire, events, and collaborations. Brisbane Chorale regularly performs with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra and other major orchestras, choirs, performance organisations and festivals.

Orchestra Corda Spiritus have performed in many of the 4MBS Festivals, with recordings being professionally recorded and broadcast. The Orchestra fills a special niche in the classical music scene in Brisbane. Its players and soloists are professionals: from QSO, MSO and other orchestras and backgrounds – who relish the additional opportunity to pour their ‘heart and spirit’ (Corda Spiritus) into the great classics.

Based in Brisbane at Twelfth Night Theatre, The Queensland Choir is one of the premier large choirs in Australia and has led the development of choral performance in Queensland for more than a century. In 2022, they celebrate their 150th anniversary.

The Queensland Choir an enriching community of like-minded people that share a deep passion for classical choral music.

Brisbane Symphony Orchestra was our 2021 Orchestra in Residence.
Founded 31 years ago by Antoni Bonetti, the orchestra are performing a series of concerts throughout the year. Tune into the Brisbane Symphony Orchestra program on 4MBS on the fourth Saturday of each month at 1pm for performances by the Orchestra and details of forthcoming concerts.

Opus 5 was our 2021 Ensemble in Residence.
This chamber ensemble was formed specifically for the 2018 4MBS Classic Concerts Cruise to New Zealand. The musicians enjoyed playing together so much that they have continued their collaboration – including last year in the 4MBS Performance Studio. The ensemble is made up of very experienced musicians, and members have performed with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra.
