Our overall mission is to promote, entertain, and educate people about classical music and related arts. We are also focussed on providing performance and employment opportunities for Queensland talent - not only musicians, but actors, directors, composers, writers, and lighting and set designers. 4MBS is also recognised for its promotion of young and emerging musicians, and artists through many school, university and community based activities.

At our core, we are one of Australia’s premier community radio stations, running three different services: 4MBS Classic FM 103.7, 4MBS Light Digital, and Silver Memories. But, we are so much more than a radio station!
Classic Arts Productions
4MBS is also a production house for festivals, concerts, theatre productions and arts support services.
Every year in Autumn, the annual 4MBS Festival of Classics - Australia’s largest classical music festival - brings a month of classical music concerts and events to venues throughout Brisbane. Then in Spring, our Brisbane Shakespeare Festival brings the Bard to Brisbane’s parks with free outdoor professional performances of Shakespeare plays, plus other Shakespearean-themed events.
4MBS is also responsible for commissioning and producing the nostalgic play Cribbie; for several nationwide tours of the classic play Amadeus; and for the 2010 performance of the record-breaking Gothic Symphony, featured in the award-winning suspenseful and beautiful documentary The Curse of the Gothic Symphony.
But who does all this?
4MBS is run by a small number of paid staff and around 300 volunteers who work tirelessly around the clock. (Seriously, if you came by late on a Saturday night, you’d still see a dedicated volunteer or two behind the microphone!).
Who pays for it?
4MBS is supported by annual subscriptions, donations and bequests, sponsors and a range of fundraising activities. If you’d like to subscribe, support us, or register as a volunteer, please click here!

welcome to 4mbs classic fm!
We are a broadcasting and arts organisation spreading the love of classical music and performing arts throughout South-East Queensland, Australia, and beyond.
Established in 1979 in the sunny city of Brisbane, 4MBS began life as a community classical music radio station on 103.7FM. Today, we run three different radio services, produce festivals, plays and concerts, and provide arts and educational services.
